1. Will this be enough to make a scarf?
This is a question we are often asked when people buy a skein of yarn. There is no difinitive answer for this because of the variables that are involved in the creation of the scarf. The best answer is to consider how long of a scarf you want, what weight of yarn you plan to use, needle size you are knitting with, and the knitting style.
We typically skein our yarns in sizes that are equvilant to match most patterns with a minimum length. If you are not sure the number of yards or skeins you need it is always better to err on the side of caution and get one more than you think you need. Yes this does add to the cost, but if you have extra you can use it for some thing else. If you have too little you item with go un-finished and thus all your hard effort down the drain.
2. What is a skein and how is it different from a ball of yarn?
A skein, or "hank" as some refer to it, is the yardage of yarn that is wound to length and twisted up for easy storage. There is no difference between a ball and a skein other than a ball is already wound for use in a project.
3. Do you dye your own yarn?
As of October 2006 we have begun the process of using natural dyes to add rich, earthy, and brilliant colors to our line. Weather permitting we will have some available for purchase throughout the winter months. However, because this is best done outdoors we only have what we can produce during good outdoor weather conditions.
4. Will you carry dyes for purchase?
We do have a supplier from which we can purchase dyes for our store. We are considering a selection of dyes and classes we will provide. Please keep checking our product line for that update.
